Hero’s Encore is open to Veterans, First Responders, and Transitioning Service Members. Participants must be 18 or older and provide proof of service.
Veterans: DD-214 / Military ID
First Responders: Official department ID, badge number, or signed letter from your agency
Not at all. The program welcomes both beginners and experienced musicians. No prior training is required—just a willingness to learn and engage.

Hero’s Encore is a 9-month music-based resiliency program, divided into two phases:
- Individual mentorship
- Group collaboration and performance
- A loaned guitar and essential gear
- Weekly instruction with a trained mentor
- Songwriting materials and support
- Access to local performance opportunities
- Participation in a graduation showcase
Instruments are loaned during the program. Upon graduation, we evaluate eligibility for permanent placement based on engagement, attendance, and available resources.
The program primarily uses acoustic guitars (6-string and Bass) or ukelele, but we accommodate adaptive instruments as needed and plan to expand into other instruments as resources allow.
We understand life circumstances change. If a participant pauses or exits the program early, they’re welcome to reapply when ready. Loaned equipment must be returned unless otherwise approved.

Sponsoring one Hero through the full 9-month journey is $1,250. This includes all equipment, mentorship, materials, and performance opportunities.

Yes. Hero’s Encore is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

We seek individuals with a passion for service, music experience (formal or informal), and the ability to commit to weekly sessions. Background checks and training are required.

We are based in Bellevue, Nebraska, at Bellevue University Military Veteran Services Center, serving Heroes throughout the state at approved host sites. We aim to expand our footprint regionally through strategic partnerships.
